The Capitol Hill Neighborhood Council serves a diverse community located around the Utah State Capitol Building in Salt Lake City.
We envision a Capitol Hill where all people feel a sense of value and belonging and are empowered to contribute to the civic life and well-being of the community. Our mission is to strengthen the community by educating, engaging, and uniting residents through inclusive dialogue and programs that improve the quality of life in the neighborhood and in the broader community.
Our monthly meetings are open to all and are designed to give local residents the opportunity to hear from, speak to, and ask questions of public officials, including the Police and Fire Departments, the Mayor’s office, our representatives on the City Council and Salt Lake City Board of Education, and our State Legislators.

Get Involved
If you’re a member of the neighborhood and want to lend your support, we’d love to get you involved. We are organized and run entirely by volunteers, so your contributions are critical.
Board of Directors
The Board directs the organization’s general strategy and supervises operations between Council meetings. Board members help guide and oversee the general operations of the organization through board meetings, in addition to participating on a committee. The board usually meets from 6-8 PM on the second Wednesday of each month.
Board service doesn’t require any particular background or expertise, just a commitment to the council and its mission. If you’re interested in helping us build and maintain the infrastructure for effective and inclusive community dialogue, shaping organization strategy, or becoming a leader in the council, the board is a great place to get involved.
Committees
Committees are the beating heart of the organization, where volunteers come together to implement programs and discuss ideas in detail. Committees focus on distinct areas and activities, including Communications; Community Engagement; Events; Environment; and Transportation, Infrastructure, & Planning. Each committee decides for itself how often it meets and for how long. Most committees meet for an hour or two once a month, with flexible and self-paced opportunities to help out on specific projects in between.
As a committee member, you will collaborate with neighbors on projects, whether that’s organizing a neighborhood festival, crafting community outreach materials, or reviewing a proposal from the city planning division. If you want to make a tangible difference in a specific area you care about or shape the ongoing conversation without the broader responsibilities of the board, joining a committee is the perfect fit.
